LEADERSHIP OF LEARNING
What are Kelly’s priorities in relation to the learning culture of Star of the Sea School and how have these been made evident in her role as Acting Deputy Principal?
Kelly is a leader who embraces change as part of developing new and positive learning opportunities for the school. Kelly is passionate about Literacy, especially students who need extra support to achieve their goals. Once Kelly identifies a need, she seeks opinions and advice from within and outside the school community and then works towards developing a strategy of Professional Learning that will lead to positive learning outcomes for our students. Kelly is consultative in this approach, but will affirm her own opinion with strong, well thought out arguments, supported by research and evidence.
Kelly has worked tirelessly to develop procedures and process that assist teachers in sharing information about our students.
This has been evident in her collaboration with staff on writing IEPs and her leadership re the NCCD.
Kelly understands the importance of evidence-based practice in our school in order to monitor the growth of our students. She is solution focused and uses her initiative to make sure that outcomes are achieved.
Kelly has worked tirelessly in her endeavour to make changes with our Literacy program at Star of the Sea. She follows everything up and informs us of her results
Kelly has led the change in our Literacy learning with Linda Clune with excellence. She has looked at results and is working to provide solutions. She encourages new learning, growth, resourcing and professional learning to support the needs of staff and students. She has listened to teachers and acted. She is highly efficient, follows all items through. She has also supported staff in developing IEPs and identifying and supporting students with QDTP. Kelly has provided detailed information, presented at staff meetings, enabled staff to go to professional learning and has provided her ongoing support and feedback.
Kelly values the need to address and implement evidence-based practice in our school. She is prepared to follow through with initiatives she is involved in or has initiated, to make sure that outcomes are achieved.
Kelly is proactive in creating a whole school approach to learning. In her role as Acting Deputy Principal she was careful to ensure that Education Support Officers were included in the loop with regards to the changes being made to the way we look at spelling as a whole school. Kelly asked the ESO group for input indicating on more than one occasion that she valued our professional opinion. She then fed back into the group once the decision was made and organised training for us to be involved in the implementation of the new strategies.
Kelly is very efficient and encourages staff to share information. The more informed she is the better her decision making, and discussions are. Her work with R-2 in reading assessment and resources is excellent.
Kelly’s dedication to the NCCD data collection, Special Education, Literacy support and management of the ESOs this semester has been amazing. Her rigor around organising, leading and supporting the school in these areas has been exceptional. While it was clear that Kelly understood the workload involved in all these areas and the impact it would have on staff, she led all these initiatives with professionalism and understanding. Kelly did what she could to support all the staff and it was evident that her priority was to ensure we were all doing our due diligence while trying to keep things as manageable and stress free as possible.
Kelly is passionate about Special Education (students and support), NAPLAN results, seen gaps and implemented strategies to close this gap. Introduce a program across all year levels (Linda Clune), so all working together, using same language.
Kelly is not afraid to look beyond what is already happening within the school. the school. She has brought new thinking into the areas of ESO timetabling, record keeping and literacy programs. In doing so, she has encouraged others to think outside the square.
